How did we start?
Thanks for your interest in us! I originally became interested in helping people with cancer in 2013. I created a group called SPBC (Save People Battling Cancer), which organized the first Run for Cancer. After meeting Maggie and telling her about my work in 5th grade, she thought that it was a really cool idea and great cause. She told me about the Angel Foundation and I was immediately drawn to their cause since it aligned with my original goal for the event the previous year. Maggie and I worked so hard to put on the 2nd Annual Run for Cancer together, trying to start our new work together with a bang. We earned about $825 and were very excited to continue raising money for people with cancer. We renamed the event Out Run Cancer and have been working hard together ever since to raise money for the Angel Foundation.

Our Stories
Chloe: In 5th grade, I decided that I wanted to make a difference in the lives of those who had cancer. I couldn't even begin to imagine the devastation that went along with a cancer diagnosis and couldn't help but think about the financial devastation that could make matters even worse. Quite often, people are faced with the decision to get their cancer treated or to buy basic necessities like groceries or gas for their family. Some people even go back to work, hoping to make money to support their family and put off treatment until they can afford it, which often never happens. I believe that neither treatment or basic necessities should ever be stripped from people, no matter a person's income. I created the Run for Cancer in 5th grade in attempt to help someone in the community whose child had cancer and potentially ease this financial hardship. When I heard about Angel Foundation, I realized that it perfectly aligned with my own mission, since they step in to help people to afford these basic necessities while they are battling cancer and give families more freedom to pursue treatments for their family member being affected by cancer. By raising money for the Angel Foundation, I hope to improve people's lives in difficult times, even if I can only help a few people.
Maggie: I have always known that I want to help others. So, in 5th grade, when someone from the Angel Foundation came in to talk to my class about what some people with cancer were experiencing, I knew I had found how I wanted to help. I wanted to help people battling cancer. So, when Chloe mentioned a run she had previously done, I immediately wanted to work with her on the next one. We are now starting to plan the 5th annual Out Run Cancer Event and I could not be more excited to put it on!
